Budd Lake Crash Med-Vac’s One : late afternoon on Wednesday September 9th the Budd Lake Fire and Rescue Squads  were called to the intersection of Sandshore Road and Brookside for the head on crash. Chief 50 arrived and reported one victim with a serious leg injury and a lot of fluid in the roadway. Atlantic Ambulance’s EMS 5 arrived along with Medic 57 and started to assess the victim and requested a helicopter to fly. Squad 56 secured the cars and assisted ems with removing the victim from the car. Chief 52 and Engine 59 set up the landing zone at a nearby school. Rt. 80 Crash Airlift's Two : Thursday afternoon August 27th Budd Lake Fire and First Aid responded to Rt. 80 at mile marker 25 west for an overturned car. Atlantic Health Care’s EMS 5 arrived first and reported an suv overturned with three injuries and requested the volunteer rigs to respond also. Car 50 arrived and assumed command of the incident and requested two helicopters to fly for two patients with loss of consciousness. Squad Co. 56 assisted EMS and secured the car that was stuck on the guardrail. Ambulances from Budd Lake and Flanders assisted Atlantic Ambulance with the transport of patients while engine 53 covered the helicopter landing. Driver Injured In Garbage Truck Rollover on Rt. 80 : Monday evening the driver of a 20 yard roll off garbage truck was injured when his truck rolled over onto the center guardrail at exit 25. The driver was treated by Budd Lake’s Rig 75 and Medic 55 and transported to a waiting Atlantic Helicopter to Morristown with a laceration to the arm and rib injuries. Squad Co. 56, Morris County Haz-Mat and Rescue 77 contained a hydraulic spill and had to cut the guardrail so the truck could be up righted. Truck crashes down a Ravine in Budd Lake : Thursday afternoon the Budd Lake Fire and Rescue Squads responded to Rt. 46 @ Rt.80 for the box truck down the embankment with the person out of the truck. After Car 50 and Squad 56 assessed the crash and found that oil was leaking into the stream. Command notified the County Haz-Mat team, DEP and the Health department as Squad 56 and Rescue 77 started laying down pads and booms in the creak to soak up the oil. Icy Roads Trap Two on Rt. 80 : After another snow and ice storm Budd Lake Firefighters responded to the exit 25 ramp to Rt. 206 for the overturned Box truck with entrapment. Car 50 arrived and instructed Squad 56 and Rescue 77 to start Extraction on two people still in the truck, the one man had his foot trapped on the bottom of the truck and had to be helped out by using the jaws. The Extraction was completed in fifteen minutes and both were transported to Morristown Hospital by Rig 75 and Medic 57. Squad 56 and Tac 55 cleaned up the oil spill and several cases of wine that the truck was carrying that spilled all over the roadway. The highway was reopened after an hour by the NJDOT. Ice Storm Shuts Down Rt. 80 in Mt. Olive : The Mt. Olive Township Emergency Services got an early start on Christmas Eve around 3:30 a.m. the calls came in for a multi car accident with several injuries at the 25.0 mile marker west bound on Rt. 80. Car 50 and 51 arrived and started to check the damage, the big one was a tractor trailer that struck the bridge as it dragged a car under the rear of the trailer and then spun around and destroyed the truck’s trailer breaking open the saddle tank spilling 100 gal. of diesel fuel all over the road. There were six more cars crashed in the quarter mile accident scene. Squad 56 secured all the cars and attempted to contain the fuel spill as four ambulances’ two from Budd Lake and two from Flanders transported seven people to area hospitals with minor injuries. The Morris County Haz-Mat team responded and had a cleanup company come out to clean up the fuel spill. NJ State Police reopened the road just after 7:00 am after the NJDOT sanded and salted the highway. Photo's By Kevin Maloney

Flanders Fire and Rescue Handle Single Car Crash on Rt. 206 : Flanders Fire and Rescue extracted one patient from a single car crash on Rt. 206 and Duffy Rd. Crews cut the back seats and removed the driver from the mini van out the rear hatch. The van hit and broke a telephone pole and smashed into a guard rail. The crash was clean up within a hour. Budd Lake Finds The Beef on Rt. 80 : Tuesday night October 7th the Budd Lake Fire and Rescue Squads responded to Rt. 80 East at mm 23 for the overturned tractor trailer. First arriving units found a tractor trailer on it side loaded with beef, the driver had minor injuries and lucky as the trailer was laying on top of the guardrail and cut through the center of the trailer. After securing a fuel leak from the tractor crews waited for the tow company to upright the tractor. The trailer was a tougher task fire crews had to cut the guardrail out from the middle of the truck so the NJ DOT could off load the trailer full of beef. Tanker Overturns on Rt. 46 Washington Twp. : Monday September 15 was a long one for Emergency Responders, around 2:45 pm calls came in to the Washington Township control center that a tanker truck was overturned and leaking gasoline onto the roadway. When Fire units arrived the calls went out to the Morris County Haz-Mat and DEP for help. The Long Valley Asst. Chief arrived and established command and quickly called for all three Washington Township Companies and the Budd Lake Fire Company to assist. Budd Lake’s Tactical Unit 55 arrived and started working with some haz-mat members using all the speedy dry and haz-mat pads they had to start damming and containing the spill until the rest of the haz-mat crews arrived. 
Command started working with the County Fire Coordinator in getting two Urban Area Security Initiative trucks from Morris Township and Parsippany that carried fire suppressing foam in place for fire protection just in case of fire.  The Morris County Command Bus was called and put into action with a unified command post set up just down the highway from the incident. The Washington Township Police worked with the NJ State Police, NJ Department of Transportation and other local police to shut down and control traffic. When the spill was contained two contractors were called in to remove the fuel and start the long clean up process. The Long Valley First Aid Captain established an EMS branch and kept all EMS needs going when needed. The clean up lasted well into the morning hours, the amount of fuel that spilled out was not known. There were several firefighters that were rehabbed and some residence were checked out by EMS crews but were not transported. Several people were evacuated from homes that were nearby and area residences were notified of the accident by the reverse 911 system. 
Seven fire departments responded: Washington Township, Long Valley, Fairmont, Schooley's Mountain, Budd Lake, Chester and Hackettstown; along with two Urban Area Security Initiative trucks from Morris Township and Parsippany that carried fire suppressing foam and other specialty items. Several ambulance and rescue squads also responded, along with township police. In addition, teams from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office vehicular homicide and environmental crime units, the Morris County Sheriff's Office criminal investigation section, Morris County Department of Law and Public Safety and Office of Emergency Management, the county Incident Command Post and the Morris County Fire Coordinator responded. Units arrived to find a female driver that was pined in her car and suffering from arm and neck pain. Mt. Olive Rescuers Extricate Three From Rt. 46 Crash : Friday afternoon March 21st turned busy when dispatch started receiving calls for a head on crash on Rt. 46 @ Canfield Street. Budd Lakes Rescue 20 Captain Carlo arrived and established command and requested Flanders and Long Valley Rescue Squads for additional Ambulances. Assistant Chief Sheard took operations and instructed Rescue 77 and Squad 56 to start extricating three people from one car while crews attended to 3 more people involved in the other car. Chief Maloney took over command and requested two helicopters to fly and requested that Engine 53 respond to cover the landing zone. Medic 57 arrived and assisted the squads with patient care. While all personnel were working on the extrication a second call came in for a working truck fire in the woodfield section of town since all units were tied up working the crash, Engine 59 from Budd Lake, Flanders Engine 95 and Flanders Chief Detro responded to cover that call. Chief Maloney then had Schooleys Mountain Fire cover the Budd Lake station and Chester Fire cover the Flanders station. All crews returned to their respective stations two hours later. The crash sent 5 people to the hospital 3 by ground and two by helicopter and 2 people refused medical treatment. Rt.46 was reopened one hour and a half later.

Friday morning February 1st the Budd Lake Fire Co. Responded to Rt. 80 for the report of an MVA, when they arrived they found not one accident but 6 accidents. The big one involved 3 tractor trailers, one water delivery truck and at least 4 cars and trucks.
